Commutre ("the app," "we," "us") is a commute-tracking iOS application. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, where it is stored and your rights over that data.
Short version: all your data stays on your device. We have no server. We collect nothing.
Commutre collects the following categories of data solely to provide its core functionality. None of this data is transmitted to us or any third party.
Commutre requests Always On location permission so it can continue recording your trip while the app is in the background. Location data is used to:
Location data is stored locally on your device in the app's SwiftData store.
Location data is never sent to Commutre's servers (we have none), shared with advertisers or used for any purpose beyond the above.
Commutre requests access to CoreMotion activity data to help distinguish transport modes (walking, cycling, automotive). This data is processed on-device in real time and is not stored beyond the current trip session.
The following data is created by your use of the app and stored locally:
When a vehicle trip leg ends, Commutre may send the approximate start and end coordinates of that leg to Apple Maps servers (via the MapKit MKDirections API) to identify the transit route. This query is governed by Apple's Maps Privacy Policy. Commutre does not receive or retain any data returned beyond the route name string.
Trip data is retained on your device until you delete it. You can delete:
Deletion is immediate on-device and propagates to iCloud within seconds. Once deleted, data cannot be recovered by Commutre.
Commutre is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children. Because we collect no personal information through our own infrastructure, there is nothing to delete for any user, regardless of age.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and, where required, notify users through an app update release note. The current policy is always available at commutre.app/privacy.html.
